On the Day

Check out what you’ll be doing on Romp day, 21 March 2010!

10.00am – 12.00pm

Romp Start – Your team arrives at the Start Location just before the time you have selected when signing up to the event. You can nominate to start at 10.00am, 10.30am, 11.00am or 11.30am (Note: all Corporate Romp teams will start together at 12.30pm).

Text and go! – Teams queue in the Romp start area just before their nominated start time. As soon as you reach the end of the queue you’ll be asked to SMS the word ‘GO’ to 0428ROMPER (0428 766737). Your 4 hours starts as soon as we receive that text message. You’ll get an SMS back advising your first compulsory Checkpoint as well as your ‘Fab Four’ Checkpoints. Show this SMS to a Romp Posse at the Start Desk to receive a Romp Clue Sheet. Head past the Romp Bag collection area to pick up your free Romp Bag and you’re off and Romping!

Romp passport – For all kids aged 13 and under. This passport will be stamped at each Checkpoint you visit. At the post-Romp concert, prizes will be awarded to kids who visited randomly selected Checkpoint locations and can prove this by showing their passport.

10:00am – 4:30pm

Using your map and clue sheet – Your map of Melbourne will show only grid lines, not the exact location of Romp Checkpoints.  Your clue sheet however will guide you to Checkpoints by:

1.    Giving you a clue of the location of all Romp Checkpoints. For example, if the Town Hall is a checkpoint location, the clue may be “Home to a Lord but not a Lady”
2.    Giving you the grid reference for the checkpoint location, eg: the Town Hall, may be at K9 on the map. If you can’t solve the clue use this grid reference to (hopefully) find the location.

Challenge No. 1 – Your first challenge is to find your first compulsory checkpoint. As an added twist to make things a bit more interesting this year, not all teams will have the same list of Checkpoints.  You can only go to the Checkpoints on YOUR list.

Your tools – Using your feet, public transport, your clue sheet and your map you’ll make your way to your first Checkpoint location. Don’t forget, it’s not a race, so no running!

The Checkpoint Challenge – You’ll know you’ve found a Checkpoint location when you see a Romp desk with a bunch of Romp Posse volunteers in bright orange Romp t-shirts. A Romp Posse will hand your Team Captain a randomly selected Romp Checkpoint Challenge card. You cannot exchange your Challenge card if you don’t like it and you may attempt only one Challenge per location. The majority of Romp Checkpoint Challenges have been set at an achievable level, although challenges do range in difficulty from very easy to reasonably difficult. Challenges attract different Romp point ratings set by our question setters depending on their level of difficulty and the time it takes to complete it to make it fairer for all teams.

A range of different challenges are allocated to each Checkpoint so teams may be solving different challenges at the same time, so there’s no point trying to cheat or asking your friends in other teams to help!

Once you’ve solved your challenge, SMS your multiple choice answer and we’ll text back if you’re right, how many points you’ve just earned, your total points score and how much time you have left to Romp – it’s that easy! Then head off to whichever Checkpoint you decide to go to next …

The Romp continues – After your first obligatory Checkpoint, your team can decide which Checkpoints to visit next. The Romp does involve an element of luck, however a team that works well together and uses strategy to plan their route will make the most of their Romp challenges.

Prizes – This year, the majority of prizes will be awarded randomly to our terrific Romp fundraisers.
